A stich, in time

We FINALLY got some decent snow (Saturday 1/30/2010). It has been about 10 years since we got any significant accumulation, so we made the best of it. The rulers below are after 2 days of melting and they read about 5". I think we originally had about 7". Needless to say we had a blast! I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to miss work. The 4-wheeler was right on time, although I will say I think Shane and I enjoy it more than Roland. The neighbor and two of his kids came over and we had a sledding frenzy.

Just enjoying some inside time.
Ready for some snow action.
Our snow mobiles. Great for hauling the sleds back up the hill.
Roland resting.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to and end, and they did on Monday morning. As I was preparing to go to work, Shane brought the boys out for some sledding. He puts Duncan on the sled and says, "Watch this," and we all watched Duncan go down the hill (face first, head down, as was most of Duncan's sledding) and gradually pick up sped and slam into the wooden fence. Apparently, the snow had iced over when the temperature dropped the previous night, and the sled just rode on top of the ice, thereby increasing the speed. At first, I was horrified that Duncan didn't even cry or move, but Shane quickly ran down and picked him up and we saw that he was indeed alive and not paralyzed. My next thought was, "Not his face." But yes, his face. Duncan was a total trooper. Here is is only moments later saying cheese for the camera. As far as getting stitches, well, it was three hours of pure hell for all involved. Two of those hours were spent with Shane and I doing some hard core baby wrestling including, but not limited to, figure four, Samoan drop, Indian deathlock, and the knee drop. Unfortunately, we could not get the pin. After all this and benedryl combined with it being 3 hours past naptime, Duncan finally passed out and the Doc put the stitches in. Sweet Jesus.
Double head protection.
The after picks are soon to come. Getting the stitches out wasn't much better than putting them in. After Duncan saying, "Done? Done? Done? Done? Done?," the entire time, the doctor finally managed to get the job done. Afterward, he shook mine and Shane's hands and then Duncan put his hand up to shake and told the doctor , "Thank you." The doctor said that made it all worth it. It really looks good, all things considered.
