Hair cut

I must have said at least a hundred times that we need to get Duncan's hair cut. I finally broke down and said, "This is the day." Well, that wasn't the day. That was the day that he woke up really early and had a cold and was in a horrible mood. I didn't think that would be the picture taking event I was hoping for, so I decided to cut his hair at home. I am such a wuss when it comes to chopping off that soft blond baby hair.

The before.
The after.

The beast. This is no Sampson here. Cutting his hair has only made him stronger-as long as we aren't referring to those feelings he normally wears on his sleeve.
And now for the professional touch. I am slightly morally opposed to having a hair stylists with dreadlocks, but I guess it is what it is. Dum dums make everything go so smoothly.

The Original Baby Boy

Unfortunately, I am guilty of blogging out of order, but I did not want to overlook something very important - our baby boy turned 6! What an amazing 6 years it has been. Roland provides us with a constant source of amusement. He is so much like Shane sometimes. You can just see the gears of his mind working as he designs some lego mobile (my personal favorite is the one that is a ride-on vacuum cleaner that he is not only going to make for me, but is also going to use to clean our house) or as he attempts to tell you about something he saw by sketching it out. He also get some traits from his mom, but we aren't going to talk about those.
Roland came home from school right before Christmas and told Shane and I that he kissed Juliette on the hand and on the lips. Apparently, she picked him because he was giving her "fancy looks." This consists of raising and lowering your eye brows. I would like to say something in regards to the trivial nature of relationships between 6 year olds, but hey, that is about all it took for Shane to wrangle me in. I am really scared that this is an early indicator of lots of future girl friends.
Roland continues to grow like a weed, but has finally managed to stay in one shoe size for almost the entire school year. That is remarkable for him as I thought he would have boats for feet if he continued on at the same pace he kept for the first 5 years. A neighbor of mine says that kids grow when they are not eating, and when they are eating they are storing up for a growth spurt. In that case, we have a lot to fear because my kid who has lived on virtually nothing for 3 years or so has decided he is going to eat everything in sight. He is in the habit of saying, "That was sooooo good Momma" with a look of pure enjoyment on his face. Hopefully he can continue eating that way and stay slim like his dad.
So far, Roland has lost two teeth and has four loose, including the two top front ones. He will be lucky if he has enough teeth left to do any eating with!

I am not sure what is going on in this picture, but still liked it.
Due to Roland's birthday falling on a weekday, it was pretty low key with only a celebration at the Japanese steak house (Ro's favorite). They did come and sing some version of the birthday song with a really loud drum.
Happy Birthday Roly Poly! We love you so very much!

the evolution of Chloe Scarful Price

As I am sure most of you know by now, we are expecting a new baby somewhere around May 8, 2011-May 18, 2011 - depending on who you ask. We were not necessarily intending to have another baby, but I guess there is always that niggling want to have the opposite sex. Nevertheless, there is no turning back now. From the first day we asked the boys what baby names they liked, this baby has been Chloe.

Right before Christmas, we found out we are having...a boy! So much for the opposite sex dream. Depending on how you look at it, all boys could be a good thing. Provided they do not drive us crazy with their non-stop energy or eat us out of house and home, I think that the boys will be relatively low maintenance. I really can't complain about it because the two we have luuuuuv their Mom.

After we found out the sex, I told the boys that Chloe was a girl's name and they said no it wasn't because the dog at the house where we went trick-or-treating was named Chloe. I said that the dog was a girl, but no one believes me. So after much pestering for a boy name, Roland has come up with (not sure where) Scarful.
We didn't get the best ultrasound pictures because this baby apparently feels the need to sit on my bladder, making it hard to see.

And just in case there was any doubt, the third ultrasound confirmed what the second had said. The tech said they refer to this as a turtle (see below).

Little Chloe was having no part in the picture taking. Even with much jostling, he kept his hands in his face and refused to wake up. We at least have a little preview of what is to come. I suppose we will see the real deal soon enough!

Think outside the box

As I went to drop Duncan off at school one day, I couldn't help but laugh at these pictures above their cubbies. The next day, I had to come back with the camera and take a picture. To explain (in case you can't tell from the picture), apparently each kid was given a sheet of stickers with Christmas balls and 6 candy canes to put to decorate their Christmas tree. Every kid in the class put the balls all over the middle of the tree and the candy canes around the outside. Of course, Duncan's has all the balls on the tips of the tree and all the candy canes stacked like a tree skirt at the bottom. This could not suit Duncan more, and as much as Shane and I try to deny paternity and maternity, I think this is just one more piece of evidence that Duncan is ours.

Happy Winter

Well, after what seemed to be a lifetime of being sick, bone-chilling cold, school functions, and work commitments, the Price's have decided to come out of hibernation. We wanted to officially wish everyone a happy winter before spring begins. We took the first warm day of the year to visit Lake Crabtree with some friends and let the boys play in the water. I think they both agreed that it was cold, but I am sure neither cared.
We obviously have a lot to catch up on, but here's a start.

Ummm, Thanksgiving? Yes. We took a road trip to Kentucky to see Mammaw and Pappaw and to have Thanksgiving with Aunt Trish and future Uncle Jeff. As it turns out, you don't get a lot of good pictures during the holiday season when a three year old is doing most of the taking. He is remarkably good for his age, but still. We did get a good shot of Mammaw and Shane. We also got some good ones of Trish's wedding dress, but thought those would be best left un-posted. We had a nice time, but I think our maximum car time is about 5 hours, and we exceeded that by 5 hours (plus some) on the trip back. That holiday traffic is a killer.

Prior to Christmas, we got to enjoy Duncan's Christmas performance and Roland's holiday party.
Shane went to Roland's class and made ginger bread houses. Shane had never made one before, and I think he really enjoyed it. I am not sure if Roland got to participate or not, but as long as someone had fun, I guess it's all right.
We did manage to squeeze in a trip to see The Big Guy. Roland asked for a Power Ranger Megazord, and Duncan asked for a motorcycle - not the kind you push around.

Well, here is a picture of the Megazord (among other things). Duncan got a microphone and a tricycle. Tricycle. Motorcycle. Sort of the same thing.
Here we are enjoying the Christmas snow. This is a definite rarity in N.C. Unfortunately, Shane had to drive in the snow and go back to work, but otherwise we had a great holiday and really enjoyed our time off.
Happy 2011 everyone and happy 11th anniversary to my hubby!

Frankie

Yeah Roland! Roland finally got to bring home Frankie the frog! Each week a student in Roland's class gets to bring home the class frog (based on good behavior). At first, I thought Roland would never see that frog. Over the past several weeks, his behavior has been getting better and better. He made it to Thursday with only happy faces just a few weeks ago. This particular week, they only had 4 days of class and on Thursday morning, I woke Roland up and he said, "I am going to try to be good today. No, I will be good today. I am going to get Frankie." We are so proud! Below are some of the pictures we posted in Frankie's journal. We also took him to see Santa!

Happy Birthday Butterscotch!

Somehow our little man has turned 3! I do not know where the time has went. It seems like just yesterday when I held a tiny 7lb baby in my arms. I can't say enough about Duncan. He is something else. He is always saying to me, "Momma, do you want (insert here)? Say yes." He is pretty hard to resist. He usually sleeps in a diaper, and each morning he gets up and does the pee dance and says, "Gotta go pee. Gotta go pee." I always tell him to go. He always goes to Shane's bathroom to pee, but he takes his diaper off and takes it to my bathroom and puts it in the trash can, then runs back and pees in Shane's bathroom. I can't help but think he got some of his neurotic behavior from me. I am so proud. One of my most favorite things Duncan does though is calls his chin a "chicken." It is so sweet when he runs into the room crying about how he hit his chicken. We still have to carry him most everywhere because his "legs are tired." It is hilarious when we have been doing something like riding in the car and we get out and he walks about 30 ft and says "carry me, my legs are tired." Roland is definitely a Momma's boy, but Duncan is our in-between. He loves his Momma when she is nice, but at the first sign of discipline, he always says, "I want my Daddy." And when he is scared, he is definitely Daddy's boy. Since Roland has been in school, Duncan always wants his backpack to carry around. He tells me that he is going to "draw my name," or asks "how do you draw your name." His thing of the week is calling us "butterscotch" or "pork chop," which totally cracks him up. He told me "goodnight pork chop" just last night, which of course led to a slew of name calling that prolonged bedtime for another 15 minutes. He keeps us laughing. Shane and I consider ourselves lucky to have two sweet, funny, healthy, loving boys. I think Duncan will definitely be a lover, but God help us all if he is a fighter.

Birthday #2 at home.

Birthday #3 with Grammy and PawPaw-I really hate I don't have video to put up of Duncan riding the horse they gave him. He he giving the hardwood floors hell.
Happy Birthday stamps.
Birthday #1 at school.
